Hi, my name is Lisa Norton and welcome to my first (hopefully of many) blog posts on the new SOTO blog! As you probably know at SOTO we have a lot of products made from reclaimed teak. So I thought I would take this opportunity to highlight the benefits of actually buying Teak produc
ts and furniture and demonstrate why Teak is such a fabulous wood that outshines all the rest by far, literally!
The Teak wood bears many characteristics that make it popular, one being that it’s highly durable. Another characteristic of Teak is that the wood has natural shine, therefore needs no varnish coating after it has been crafted into a piece of furniture.
Teak is a dense, coarse, close-grained hardwood. It naturally contains high levels of resinous oil that acts as an insect repellent and allows it to be resistant to moisture and the drying effects of the weather. It also contains silica, which creates a density allowing resistance to fungal decay, water, rotting, warping, shrinking, swelling and many chemicals.
No other wood compares to Teak when it comes to durability, elegance, stability and low maintenance. Teak furniture is always a good investment, if it is well cared for it can last for more than a hundred years! Teak never goes out of style, in fact it beautifies with age and even smells good – it has a faint pleasant aromatic smell.
At SOTO we only use reclaimed Teak, which comes from dilapidated buildings, rice barns and other old useless structures. Ensuring we only ever use natural, environmentally friendly Teak and are doing our bit to help conserve the natural Teak forests.
